Meet two of our TrusteesBrittany Cohen Brittany Cohen began her teaching career in 2012 as a classroom assistant working with students with special needs. Since completion of her graduate degree in Elementary Education in 2018, she has taught special needs students, 7th & 8th grade Science, and is currently a fourth-grade teacher at Carnell Elementary School in Northeast Philadelphia. Throughout her teaching career, Brittany has developed a love of educating youth about history. Her own love of history started in high school, when she took a History of Philadelphia class that was engaging and in-depth. This love of history grew deeper as she worked as a tour guide at Christ Church several years ago. In addition to exploring history, Brittany enjoys reciting her poetry, meditating, spending time with friends and families, and caring for her pet rats! Even while engaging in her hobbies, Brittany is looking for means to benefit her students. She recently hosted a series of open mic nights where participants recited their poetry and performed their music. This was advertised as a fundraiser for the students at her school. The goal was to raise money to help defray the cost of field trips. Brittany hopes her students can come to Old Pine Street Church’s historic graveyard and participate in a self-guided audio tour for students which she helped develop! Brittany’s love of teaching is only matched by her love of history. Her students are in good hands! |
