Matt Harman is Old Pine Conservancy’s researcher and social media project leader, and part of our commitment to “help the future preserve the past.” He was hired earlier this year as he was completing his last semester at the University of Pennsylvania. Matt is 33 years old and got his degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Social Sciences. He is an avid cyclist who encourages everyone who is able to ride a bicycle. Also, he “considers himself an imperfect albeit perpetually improving proponent of nonviolence.”
Matt is a proud graduate of the Community College of Philadelphia. He subsequently applied for and was awarded the Dean’s Scholarships for Graduates of the Community College of Philadelphia. Additionally, Matt was a National Science Foundation student research recipient at Towson University concentrating on deindustrialization’s effect on former steelworkers of the Bethlehem Steel works in Dundalk, MD. His major areas of interests at the University of Pennsylvania and currently are nonviolence, Liberation Theology, and Truth and Reconciliation Processes.
Matt’s work with Old Pine Conservancy included a major overhaul of the graveyard database, scanning and interpreting primary documents from the 18th and 19th centuries, collaborating with our researchers and historical conservancies. He actively promotes our programs and efforts through social media.
You can help the Old Pine Conservancy continue its mission of hiring university students to aid us in preserving and protecting the historic graveyard at Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church and creating innovative methods of sharing that history with the public by making a donation to our Jobs for Generation Z1 fundraiser. All proceeds are dedicated to hiring university and college students for OPC’s mission.
Old Pine Conservancy Jobs4GenZ
The goal of this fundraiser is to provide undergraduate students with employment experiences that will help build both their resume … and their income.
It also helps Old Pine Conservancy better answer genealogy questions from family members, do research, develop more educational programs, and create additional biographical profiles of our Patriots.
Students will be hired as independent contractors and paid at a rate of $15 an hour. Employment consists of 35hr/week with flexibility for college schedules.
1 Generation Z (or Gen Z for short) is the demographic cohort succeeding Millennials and preceding Generation Alpha. Researchers and popular media use the mid-to-late 1990s as starting birth years and the early 2010s as ending birth years.
